Oldest Woman Passes On at 115
Today I read that the oldest woman in the world, 115 year old Edna Parker, died. She lived in a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana. Ms. Parker was born April 20, 1893 in Morgan County, Indiana and was known by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest person since 2007.
I don’t think I want to live to be over 100 years old. With my luck, if I live into those older years, I’ll be sick and in a nursing home and totally hate being alive. My mother had a stroke and ended up in a nursing home for the last three years of her life. She was paralyzed and there was no way that her husband or I could take care of her at home. Even though we researched all the local nursing homes and tried to choose the right one, I hated that place. No matter how they tried to keep it clean, it always smelled of urine. Mom’s husband would stay with her all day and evening until it was time for Mom to go to bed. That was the only way he could be sure that she was well taken care of and not abused like we hear so much about. The attendants did their best but the nursing home didn’t pay them very well and they were very understaffed. I felt it was a blessing when she passed on, even though I was very sad.
If I had my way, which I know I don’t, I would die naturally before I get real sick or old and have to be in a nursing home.
